Leadership
One way to measure the regard in which an attorney is
held is whether he or she has been elected to positions
of leadership within the profession. Jerry McHugh has consistently
been recognized as a leader of the Bar.
- He served as President
of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, a charitable affiliate
of the Bar that promotes access to justice for the
poor.
- He was
elected President of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers
Association, the oldest such association in the United
States.
- The Supreme
Court of Pennsylvania appointed him to three terms
as Chair of the Interest on Lawyers Trust Account Board
(IOLTA), a statewide agency that supports legal services
for the indigent.
- He was asked to serve on the Board of Governors
of the Philadelphia Bar Association.
- The Disciplinary Board
of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania appointed him
as Chair of a Hearing Committee.
- He has served several terms of as
a member of the Board of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers
Association, and chaired both its Legislative Policy
Committee, and its Statewide Task Forces on Medical Malpractice
and Product Liability.
- He has served on the Philadelphia
Bar Association’s
Commission for Judicial Evaluation, Selection, and Retention.
- He
holds a seat on the Advisory Committee for Civil Rules
of the United States District Court for the Eastern
District of Pennsylvania.
- He was invited
to join the Board of Pennsylvania Legal Services,
the funding agency for legal services programs serving
the poor across the state.
